Estimation of Dense 2-d Motion Based on the Constancy of Intensity Gradient

چکیده
This paper describes a new approach to the estimation of dense 2-D motion from image sequences. Unlike in many other approaches that assume the constancy of image intensity along motion trajectories, we propose to use a higher order model that permits a variation of such intensity. We deene the structural model that is based on the assumption of intensity gradient constancy along motion trajectories. This model has been proposed before 7], however in formulations that require exact satisfaction of the intensity gradient constraint. Due to inherent noise, aliasing, etc. present in images such solution necessitates additional post-processing, for example smoothing. We propose a diierent approach that is based on simultaneous estimation and smoothing. We formulate the problem using regularization where the assumptions of gradient constancy and of motion smoothness are combined into a single cost function. We minimize this function by an iterative method. We demonstrate estimation results for the original and for the \regularized" approach on natural image sequences.

Motion Estimation and Compensation Under Varying Illumination
In this paper we propose a new approach to motion-compensated ltering of image sequences that contain time-varying illumination. There are two contributions in this paper. First, we propose a new method for the estimation of dense 2-D motion that is robust to time-varying illumination often present in images. We deene the structural model that is based on the assumption of intensity gradient co...
متن کاملUse of Colour in Gradient-Based Estimation of Dense Two-Dimensional Motion
This chapter presents a gradient-based approach to the multi-constraint estimation of dense two-dimensional (2-D) motion. The formulation is based on two assumptions: that at least one feature exists that is constant along motion trajectories and that motion vectors are smooth functions of spatial coordinates. From these assumptions matching and smoothness errors are derived and combined to obt...
متن کاملHigh Accuracy Optical Flow for 3D Medical Image Registration Using the Census Cost Function
Abstract. In 2004, Brox et al. described how to minimize an energy functional for dense 2D optical flow estimation that enforces both intensity and gradient constancy. This paper presents a novel variant of their method, in which the census cost function is utilized in the data term instead of absolute intensity di↵erences. The algorithm is applied to the task of pulmonary motion estimation in ...
متن کاملClosed-form connectivity-preserving solutions for motion compensation using 2-D meshes
Motion compensation using two-dimensional (2-D) mesh models requires computation of the parameters of a spatial transformation for each mesh element (patch). It is well known that the parameters of an affine (bilinear or perspective) mapping can be uniquely estimated from three (four) point correspondences (at the vertices of a triangular or quadrilateral mesh element). On the other hand, overd...
متن کاملEnhancing Gradient Sparsity for Parametrized Motion Estimation
In this paper, we propose a novel motion estimation framework based on the sparsity associated with gradients of the parametrized motion field. Beginning with Shen and Wu’s sparse model for optic flow estimation [15], we show the sparsity of the motion field can be enhanced by increasing the degree of freedom of the parametrized motion model. With such an enhancement, we formulate the motion es...
